What is the best air purifier for eczema and dust allergy ?
I have just moved house and find it gets very dusty quickly. I wake up with red patches on my face and swollen nearly every morning which never used to happen in my old place . I wonder does anyone know what would be the best air purifier for my allergy ?
They are quite pointless. I have asthma and I suffer from allergies myself, but I always recommend things which are based of fact and evidence and those air purifiers are a con. I am pretty sure (and someone holler at me if I am wrong, can't find the link), that a Cochrane study debunked them.
The only useful things you can do is to buy mite proof allergen covers for all bedding, ensure the room is well ventilated and vacuume almost daily, remove all carpets (wool is a known irritant and dust mites harbour in the pile), remove bedroom carpets in particular.
What are you washing your bedding in? Use a non-biological washing powder, I personally like Waitroses Eco tabs, they are in a green pot. Or Surcare or Filletti (not sure if that's the spelling!).
Is there any mould on the windowsills? Is there any damp in your room? You see these let off spores. Dust almost daily, I like those pledge fluffy dusters with the handles. Have you brought new bedding? Try and have natural bedding but make sure they have filtered the dander out of feather and down bedding. One company in the UK which the allergy people recommend is the QVC shopping channel and their 'Northern nights bedding'. I purchased it myself and it's amazing. Body steroid levels also plummet at night, so its a common time for allergies during the night.
If all this fails, then ask your GP for an older stronger antihistamine, the only problem is they are sedating, but as this is at night, it won't make any difference.
